Review Species Specimens
A "Great White" Heron specimen collected at Galveston Is., Galveston County, ca. 1936 has been widely cited in Texas literature was reportedly held at the Dallas Museum of Natural History. The TBRC discussed this specimen at the 2004 meeting and Lockwood had agreed to solicit additional information. Personnel at the museum were unable to locate the specimen and no additional information could be uncovered.
Motion to Remove (Mangrove) Yellow Warbler from the list of Review Species
Lockwood asked the committee to consider removing (Mangrove) Yellow Warbler from the Review List. This species has been determined to be a permanent resident in mangroves surrounding the South Bay of the Laguna Madre based on work done by Scarlet and George Colley and David Benn. There was no disagreement about the removal of the species. Lockwood moved (Pinkston: second) to remove (Mangrove) Yellow Warbler from the Review List and the committee voted 7-0 in favor.
Motion to Remove Little Gull from the list of Review Species
Paton asked the committee to consider removing Little Gull from the Review List. The committee discussed the number of current records and if there was a good understanding of the occurrence of the species in Texas. The species is well below the criterion for removal (four records per year for four years). Paton moved to remove Little Gull from the Review List, but the motion failed to get a second.
Motion to Add Black-legged Kittiwake to the list of Review Species
Black-legged Kittiwake was removed from the Review List in 1999 after several years of higher than average records. Discussions centered on the fact that this species appears to have returned to a much lower level of occurrence. Lockwood moved (Bryan: second) to add Black-legged Kittiwake to the Review List and the committee voted 7-0 in favor.
Adjournment
With no other formal business on the agenda, the meeting was adjourned at 11:20 AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Mark W. Lockwood
Secretary, Texas Bird Records Committee
